T-CON Introduction

A T-Con (Timing Control) board is a key part of LCD and LED TVs. It converts video signals from the main board. Then, it turns them into precise timing and control signals. Therefore, it acts like a “traffic controller” for screen pixels, instructing them when to turn on and off.

What the TCON Board Does:

First, it changes digital video from the main board into parallel signals. These match the LCD panel’s matrix.
It also provides accurate timing signals to activate specific pixels at the correct moments. As a result, it prevents flickering and keeps the image stable.
Additionally, it creates analog voltages like VGH and VGL. These control the liquid crystal transistors in the liquid crystal display.
Finally, it improves image quality using gamma and HDR correction.

How It Works:

The main board first sends a decoded video signal to the TCON board. This travels via a cable like the LVDS cable.
Inside the TCON, a microprocessor organize and time the data for the display’s rows and columns.
At the same time, A mini power supply and DC-DC converter within the TCON generate the specific voltages required for the LCD panel.
These signals are then sent to the panel. Thus, each pixel is controlled to form the image.

Location:

In most mid-to-large TVs, the T-Con is a separate board. However, some brands build it into the main board. This often makes repairs harder and more expensive.
